- Reducing wind velocity at the ground surface:
- Shelterbelt can filter the wind and at the same time lift the wind from the surface.
- In general, wind velocity can be reduced by the shelterbelts on the windward side from 5-10 times of tree height and on leeward side the protection is upto 30 times tree height.
- Close growing crops like groundnut, green gram are more effective than widely spaced crops like cotton and sorghum.
- Increasing the size of soil aggregates
- Clay soils with high organic matter are coarsely granulated and are not subjected to serious wind
- Bigger the size of the aggregates, lesser will be the effect of wind on soil erosion.
- Keeping the soil moist:
- Water creates surface tension and it hold the soil together.
- Trapping the saltation particles
- Strips of upright growing crops or stubble across the direction of wind are prove successful in catching the abrasive material carried by saltation.
- Various oil or rubber-based emulsion
- Poly functional polymers developed chemical bonds with clay materials in the soil and form temporary soil aggregates.
