About Lesson

In India, new crop cultivars are developed by the following four important organizations:

  1. Crop Research Institutes/centers of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research located in different states.
  2. State Agricultural Universities located in different states.
  3. All India coordinated projects of different crops, and
  4. Private seed companies (national and multinational).

New varieties of a crop are developed after thorough testing in All India coordinated project over several locations for 2-3 years. The main objective of coordinated project of each crop is to develop high yielding, early maturing, and good quality varieties resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses
