a) Etiology:

  • Caused by Myobacterium avium

b) Transmission:

  • Manure of infected animal

c) Symptoms:

  • Emaciation
  • Unresponsive to antibiotics
  • Normal stool with occasional diarrhea
  • Low-grade fever
  • Intermandibular edema
  • Thickened small intestine

d) Diagnosis:

  • Culture of feaces and tissue
  • Microscopic examination of tissue
  • Blood test, ELISA test

e) Control:

  • Maintain sanitary environment.
  • Clean udders or dams before nursing
  • Move to “Clean pastures”.
  • Vaccination
  • Don’t graze sheep on contaminated pasture
