About Lesson
  • A large number of fishes are found in Nepal and offer an opportunity for development of inland fisheries in this county is known as “Inland Fisheries”.
  • Fish and fisheries in Nepal exist in rivers, ponds, tanks, irrigation channels and reservoirs.
  • Nepal has more than 6,000 rivers. It has been estimated rivers of Nepal along with their tributaries cover about 8,200 km in length.
  • The Gandaki, Koshi and Karnali rivers are the three rivers systems with numerous feeder streams.
  • These rivers cover about 4,500 km. There are many fresh water lakes with promising acquacultural and recreational potentials such as Fewa, Rupa, Begnas and Rara Lakes and numerous others formed by river captures like Gosaikunda.
